New Job Skills Website for Students
A new website, studentgems, lets full-time students post a skills profile for themselves that employers can browse to find the skills they need. Many students are now looking for work alongside their courses to reduce the amount they need in student loans. More than 500 students signed up to the website in the first month.

  • Pathfinder is suitable for a range of students and clients. The programme has a clear, uncluttered layout made it suitable for use with both young people and adults alike.

  • Guidance professionals liked the choice of levels on entry to Pathfinder, commenting that this was a good mid-range guidance tool.

  • Some existing users of Pathfinder identified that they were not using the programme to its full capacity. A user manual and other support materials for guidance professionals and school staff would enable them to access the full benefits of the programme for their students and clients.

  • The guidance professionals who were non-users were impressed by the breadth of material covered by Pathfinder when they were initially introduced to the programme.

  • Overall, the guidance professionals consulted were happy with Pathfinder.
