Adult Education Courses
South Downs College
South Downs College is a single site purpose built campus on Portsdown
Hill within the Borough of Havant. There are over 4,500 Full Time Students
and 9,000 Part Time Students enrolled. Part Time Students are normally
taught off campus in local schools and community centres. The College
offers a wide range of courses including Saturday Workshops in Creative
Writing, Criminology, Music and Languages to the more formal Access,
AS Level and GCSE courses.
Alton College
Alton College located in the North of Hampshire offers Adult Education
Courses in Accounts, Childcare, Counselling, Creative Courses, Educational
Courses, GCSE’s and AS Levels, Health and Safety, IT, Languages,

Portsmouth College
Portsmouth College offers a wide range of Adult Education courses ranging

Success Rates
The LSC’s annual report has revealed that 69% of learners in Further
Education Colleges in Hampshire and IOW succeed in their courses. This

Action for Business
Highbury College in Portsmouth is the first FE College in the area to
become an official Action for Business College. Action for Business is
an LSC kite mark which tells local employers that the College provides

College wins Business and Community Awards for People with Disabilities
South Downs College has been awarded Best Website and Best Training and
Education Organisation in the 2nd Annual Disabled People’s Business
and Community Awards for Hampshire and Isle of Wight. The award ceremony
is organised by the Southampton Centre for Independent Living, an organisation
which is run and controlled by disabled people. Criteria judges were
looking for included areas such as ease of accessibility, ease of use,
customer service and communication.

This section provides links to opportunities and case studies of apprenticeships.
Network Rail are recruiting for their three year Advanced Apprenticeship
Scheme. The scheme involves spending a year at Europe’s largest
engineering training centre in Gosport, free food, accommodation and
travel home, and qualifying as an Engineering Technician with an NVQ
Level3. Pre requisites include being aged 17 in early September, and
having four GCSE's in English, Maths and Science at grades A-C. Further

Advanced Apprenticeships
for Welders, Pipe Fitters, Electricians
and Mechanical
Fitters are all being offered in Hampshire.
3 GCSE’s grade C or above in Maths,
English, Science or Technology are the

to be aged 17 on the 1st September 2006.
